Troubleshooting stepsback to table of contents

  1. Check for jammed paper: if found, continue with Step 2; if no jam is detected, continue with testing the X-axis motor.
  2. Slide the Carriage out of the way toward either side of the enclosed ends of the printer.
  3. Lift the Pinchwheel lever to release pressure on the media.
  4. Remove any of the jammed media that is easy to lift up and out from the top of the printer.
  5. Pull the rest of the roll, or sheet media down and out of the entry slot where the media is loaded.
  6. Check around the ends, front, and rear edges of the platen roller to verify that all of the torn media is removed. A manila folder can be used to remove jammed media from the media path.
  1. Lower the printer window, and the media lever.
  2. Turn the printer on. After the printer initializes, press the Form Feed and Cut key to eject any pieces of media that might still be in the media path.
  3. Reload media as normal. If using roll media, trim the edge so the media is straight before reloading (preventing another jam).
  4. If loading is successful, repeat loading procedure with both roll and sheet media (preferably larger than 8.5 x 11) two times each, to prove product functionality. If functionality is proven no parts need to be replaced.
  5. If loading is unsuccessful or problems persist, continue with testing the X-axis motor.

Perform the Media Axis Diagnostic Testback to table of contents

  5. If the test fails, a "D0401 Fail, D0402 Fail," or "D0403 Fail" message will appear. Continue with the remaining steps.
  6. Replace the X-axis motor assembly (refer to pg. 8-66 of the service manual).
  7. Re-assemble printer, and perform the C08 Accuracy calibration (listed below).
  8. After performing the calibration, verify printer functionality by printing several internal prints.
