System Error 060000 is generally caused by too much ambient light interfering with the operation of the Line sensor. Follow the steps listed in this document to accurately determine the cause of the failure and to replace the appropriate parts.
Parts required (part numbers are subject to change)
Troubleshooting steps
If parts are replaced or fixed in any of the steps listed below, attempt to verify printer functionality by turning the printer on and printing internal test prints. If functionality is verified, no additional parts should be replaced.
- Make sure the printer window is closed.
- Move the printer to a location with less light directly above the printer. If printer cannot be moved, dim lights directly above the printer, or cover the printer window with a piece of media.
- Turn the printer on.
- If the printer completes initialization without error, verify printer functionality.
NOTE: To correctly verify printer functionality, turn the printer off, then on. Allow printer to initialize in normal mode, and print several internal test prints.
- If the error reappears, replace the Lens cover and attempt to verify functionality. If problems persist, continue with cleaning the Drive roller (instructions listed below).
Perform Line Sensor Diagnostic Tests
- Make sure the printer is turned off from the power switch on the back of the printer.
- Press and hold the Up Arrow key and the Enter key while turning the printer on.
NOTE: Continue to press both the Up arrow and Enter keys until letters begin to scroll on the lower right side of the front panel display.
- Once the message Status/Ready is displayed on the front panel, press Enter.
- Use the Arrow keys to scroll to Utilities and press Enter.
- Scroll to Service Tests and press Enter.
NOTE: Full menu mode must be set to access the Service Tests submenu. In the Utilities menu, scroll to Menu Mode and select Full.
- Scroll to Diagnostics and press Enter.
- Scroll to D02 Line Sensor and press Enter.
- If media is not loaded, the test will stop and the "Load Media" message will appear. Load media to continue.
- The "Move Carriage" message will be displayed; use the Cancel key to move the Carriage to the left, and use the Form Feed and Cut key to move the Carriage to the right.
- Make sure the window is closed, and press Enter when the Line sensor is over the media.
- While the test is being performed, a row of "****" will be displayed.
- If the test fails, a message similar to "Green Fail V: 8.0 Blue Fail V: 11.0 T: 0" will appear. If this appears, continue with replacing the "Carriage and Trailing cable."
- If the test passes, a message similar to "Green OK V: 8.0 Blue OK V: 11.0 T: 0" will appear. If this message appears, stay in Service Mode and continue with cleaning the Drive roller (listed below).
Clean the Drive roller
- Scroll to the Diagnostics menu, and press Enter.
- Scroll to D15 Clean Roller and press Enter.
- The "Unload Media" message will be displayed, remove media (if loaded).
- The "Move Roller" message is now displayed. Use the Up Arrow key to rotate the Drive roller clockwise, or use the Down Arrow key to rotate the roller counter-clockwise.
- Open the printer window, and thoroughly clean the entire Drive roller surface using a lint free cloth dampened with water.
- Press the Previous key when completed.
- Turn the printer off, then on and attempt to verify functionality.
- If the error reappears or problems persist, continue with
replacing the Carriage and
Trailing
cable.
- Turn the printer off.
- Replace the Carriage and
Trailing cable (refer to pgs. 8-36, 8-42 of the service manual).
- Perform calibrations C02, C03, and C08 (instructions listed below). All other calibrations will be completed when printer is turned on in Normal mode (during printer initialization).
NOTE: Following each calibration, turn the printer off to store the new calibration values in the EEROM. Turn the printer on (entering Service Mode) to perform the next required calibration. Repeat this cycle until all necessary calibrations have been performed.
Performing Service Calibrations
Following each calibration, turn the printer off to store the new calibration values in the EEROM. Turn the printer on (entering Service mode) and perform the next required calibration. Repeat this cycle until all necessary calibrations have been performed.

- Hold the Up Arrow key and the Enter key down while turning the printer on.
NOTE: Continue to press both the Up Arrow key and the Enter keys until letters begin to scroll on the lower right corner of the front-panel display.
