Troubleshooting stepsback to table of contents

If parts are replaced or fixed in any of the steps listed below, attempt to verify printer functionality by turning the printer on and printing internal test prints. If functionality is verified, no additional parts should be replaced.

  1. The printer has detected that one or more printhead cleaners have become dislodged or the line sensor cannot detect it.
  2. Press the Replace Ink System key to uncap the Service Station from the Carriage.
  3. Open the right end cover.
  4. Reseat the offending printhead cleaner(s).
  5. If unsuccessful, remove the suspected cleaner.
  6. Check the top surface of the cleaner for excess ink or other contaminates (white strip behind spit chamber). Clean the area around the white strip with a lint free cloth dampened with water, if unable to remove heavy amounts of ink, Liquid white-out may be used to cover remaining ink (creating the white line).
  7. Re-install the offending printhead cleaner. If accepted, attempt to verify functionality. If rejected replace the offending ink system and attempt to verify functionality.
  8. If problems persist, clean and/or replace the lens cover.
  9. Attempt to verify functionality, if problems persist perform a Line Sensor Service Test as instructed below.

Line Sensor Testback to table of contents

  1. Enter the Service Diagnostics menu (instructions listed below).
  2. Scroll to D02 Line Sensor and press Enter.
  3. Position the Line Sensor over the media using the Cancel and Form Feed and Cut keys (Cancel moves the Carriage to the left, Form Feed and Cut moves the Carriage to the right).
  4. If the test passes, the Green and Blue LED values are within specifications (Green LED V value between 7 and 10, Blue LED V value between 7 and 12). If passed, attempt to verify functionality.
  5. If the test fails (V values out of specifications), perform an Electronics test as described below.

Electronics Testback to table of contents

  1. In the Diagnostic submenu (instructions listed below), scroll to D01 Electronics and press Enter.
  2. Follow all instructions that appear on the front panel display during the test.
  3. If the test passes, perform a Carriage Axis Test and verify functionality.
  4. If the test fails, one of several error codes may appear. Use the list below to determine the failing component.
    1. D0101, D0102, D0103 - Replace the Electronics Module (not expected), refer to pg. 8-6 of the Service Manual.
    2. D0104 - Replace the Hard Disk Drive (not expected), refer to pg. 8-12 of the Service Manual.
    3. D0105, D0106 - Replace the Carriage and Trailing cable (most common). Refer to pg. 8-42, 8-36 of the Service Manual.
