Troubleshooting stepsback to table of contents

If parts are replaced or fixed in any of the steps listed below, attempt to verify printer functionality by turning the printer on and printing internal test prints. If functionality is verified, no additional parts should be replaced.

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Lift the Top cover and check for a paper jam or other physical obstruction to Bail movement. If a paper jam has occurred, lower the media lever and remove paper. Check that paper is completely removed by looking for any small pieces in paper path.
  1. Check carriage movement manually. The carriage should contact both the far-right and far-left plastic housings.
  2. Move the carriage and cutter back to home position (carriage far right, cutter far left).
  3. Manually raise and lower bail to check for freedom of movement. Check bail for damage; replace the bail assembly if needed (refer to pg. 8-58 of the Service Manual). Following replacement, attempt to verify functionality.
  4. If no problem is found with the bail or the problem persists, perform the Bail test as instructed below.

  6. If the bail moves up and down during the test, the test has passed. Attempt to verify functionality.
  7. If the bail does not move or problems persist, replace the bail stepper motor (refer to pg. 8-62 of the Service Manual).
  8. Following replacement, verify printer functionality.
