A 05:10 error is displayed on the front panel of the printer. This error indicates an
HP-GL/2 Accessory Card failure. This issue usually does not require on-site service, as the
HP-GL/2 Accessory Card is a user replaceable part and the most common cause of the error.
Parts required (part numbers are subject to change)
The lights on the front of the
HP-GL/2 Accessory Card may also provide some information on the condition of the card. Always remove any added memory before testing the
HP-GL/2 Accessory
Card.
- The green LED indicates that power is being supplied to the unit.
- If the red LED is flashing, the
HP-GL/2 Accessory Card has failed.
- The yellow LED should be flashing. If yellow light is not flashing, it indicates that the
HP-GL/2 Accessory Card has failed.
Troubleshooting steps
- Turn the printer off.
- Remove the parallel cable and the LAN connection (if available) from the back of the printer.
NOTE: If using a parallel cable, verify that the cable is less than three meters long and is IEEE-1284 compliant.
- Unplug the printer and remove the Accessory Card.
- Re-seat the Accessory Card (into the same slot) and turn the printer on. If the error does not repeat attempt to verify functionality.
- If the error re-appears, turn the printer off.
- Unplug the printer and remove the Accessory Card.
- Remove any added memory from the Accessory Card, and reinstall the card without any memory (in the original slot).
- Turn the printer on and attempt to verify functionality. If no problems are noticed, the added memory in the Accessory card is suspect. If the problem persists, continue with the remaining steps.
- Turn the printer off.
- Remove the Accessory card.
- Remove the LAN card (if installed).
- Install the Accessory Card in the other slot (where the LAN card is, or would be located).
- Reinstall the LAN card (if available) in the original slot for the Accessory card.
- Turn the printer on.
- If the error re-appears, replace the
HP-GL/2 Accessory
card.
- If no error appears, turn the printer off.
- Remove and re-install the Accessory and LAN card into their original slots.
- Turn the printer on.
- If no error appears, verify printer functionality.
- If the error re-appears, replace the
Electronics
Module. Refer to the 500/800 Series Service Manual pages 8-24 through 8-26 and pages 8-5 and 8-6 for instructions on removing and replacing the
electronics
module.
- Following replacement, turn the printer on.
- Load media into the printer.
- Highlight Printer Information in the printer's Setup menu and press the ENTER key.
- If the
HP-GL/2 Accessory Card was detected, View and Print will be displayed; select Print. In a few minutes the printer will print the Service Print. The Service Print will print only if the
HP-GL/2 Accessory Card is installed and functioning.
