HP Designjet 1000 Series Printers - TWI: Excessive Fan Noise

In this document:

Noise will usually be attributed to the Aerosol Fan mounting becoming loose. On rare occasions the vacuum fan may make noise. Run electronics test to determine which fan is making noise. Follow the steps listed below to determine the actual cause of the failure and to replace the appropriate parts.

Troubleshooting stepsback to table of contents

If any of the troubleshooting steps listed below solve the problem, attempt to verify printer functionality by printing several internal prints. If functionality is verified, no additional parts should be replaced.

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Hold down the COLOR button while turning the printer on.
  3. Continue holding the COLOR button until the Front panel displays Initializing, then release.
  4. When the display shows Service Tests, scroll to the Electronics Systems test and press ENTER.
  5. The Electronics Systems test will now start.
  6. The test first checks the EEROM and DRAM functionality, then tests the fans.
  7. The Aerosol fan is tested first, followed by the Vacuum fan.
  8. If a vibration or other noise is present (during testing of the Aerosol Fan), try to tighten the screws on the bottom of the Right End Cover and rerun the test. If the noise reappears, replace the Right End Cover (refer to pg. 8-4 of the 1000 Series Service Manual). Following replacement attempt to verify functionality.
  1. If a vibration or other noise is present (during the Vacuum Fan test), replace the Vacuum Fan (refer to pg. 8-11 of the 1000 Series Service Manual).
  2. Following replacement, turn the printer on and verify functionality.
