HP Designjet 5000 and 5500 Series - TWI: System Error 0B0004, 0B0005

In this document:

System errors 0B0004, or 0B0005 appear when a problem with the Air Pressure System (APS) has been detected. Follow the steps listed below to determine the actual cause of the error and to replace the necessary parts.

Troubleshooting stepsback to table of contents

If parts are replaced or fixed in any of the steps listed below, attempt to verify printer functionality by turning the printer on and printing internal test prints. If functionality is verified, no additional parts should be replaced.

  1. Turn the printer off, using the main power switch located on the back of the printer.
  2. After 10 -15 seconds, turn the main power switch on.
  3. If no error appears, attempt to verify printer functionality.
  4. If the error re-appears, continue with the remaining steps.
  5. Turn the printer off and check that the cable from the Ink Supply Station (ISS) PCA to the Ink Supply Station is correctly connected (refer to pages 8-91 of the service manual). If cable is reconnected, turn the printer on and attempt to verify functionality.
  1. If no problem is found with cable connections or the problem persists, continue with the remaining steps.
  2. Turn the printer off and replace the APS (refer to pages 8-67 of the service manual).
  3. Following replacement, turn the printer on and perform a Service Station Calibration (instructions below.)
  4. Following the Service Station calibration, turn the printer off then on.
  5. If no error appears, print several internal test prints to verify printer functionality.
  6. If the issue re-appears, replace the Main PCA and the HDD Controller (which connects to the new Main PCA). Refer to pages 8-81, 8-85 of the service manual.
  7. Following replacement, turn the printer on and perform the Backup EEROM Service Utility (instructions below.)
  8. Turn the printer off then on and verify functionality.

  1. Turn the printer on.
  2. When the "READY" message is displayed on the front panel, scroll to the Printer Setup Options icon and press the ENTER key.
  3. Using the Arrow keys, scroll to Utilities and press ENTER.
  4. Press the Up Arrow key and the ENTER key simultaneously.
  5. Select Service Utilities and press ENTER.
  6. Scroll to 1.6 Backup EEROM and press ENTER.
  7. Select the part replaced (Main PCA) and press ENTER.
  8. A message confirming the selection will appear, press ENTER to confirm (if the wrong part is selected, press BACK to cancel).
  9. The printer will perform the backup and display the message, "Backup performed correctly."
  10. Press the BACK key to return to the previous menu.
  11. Press the BACK key again to return to the Service Utilities menu.
  12. Turn the printer off then on and verify functionality.
