HP Designjet 5000 and 5500 Series Printers - TWI: System Error 0C0040
In this document:
Document number: BPP90145
Last Updated: 02-Jun-2003
Minimum skill level: 2
This system error appears when the printer detects that the same area of nozzles does not work in different printheads. The possible causes are either fibers or paper in the Drop Detect sensor, or that the Scan-Axis reference is incorrect. Follow the steps listed below to determine the actual cause of the error and to replace the necessary parts.
Support Center Agents (Troubleshooting to be performed with customer)
The steps below are designed to achieve remote resolution of the issue. If the troubleshooting steps below appear to resolve the issue, attempt to verify functionality by printing several internal prints. If the issue persists following the steps below, generate a CSO for service.
- Turn the printer off, using the main power switch located on the back of the printer.
- After 10-15 seconds, turn the main power switch on.
- If no error appears, attempt to verify printer functionality.
- If the error re-appears, continue with the remaining steps.
- Attempt to manually recover the printheads:
- Using the Arrow keys, scroll to the Printhead menu (the Printhead icon is on the lower right corner of the front panel display) and press ENTER.
- Scroll to Recover Printheads and press ENTER.
- Re-cover the offending printhead(s).
- If the error re-appears or problems persist, continue with the remaining steps.
- Check the drop detector for paper or fiber contaminants, and remove as needed (the drop detector is located on the side of the service station). If cleaned, attempt to verify functionality.
- If problems persist, perform the calibrations listed below in the order of their appearance:
- Scan-Axis calibration
- Service Station calibration
- Accuracy calibration
NOTE: The Scan-Axis calibration requires the full width of media that the printer supports. The 60-inch models require 60-inch wide media, and the 42-inch models require 42-inch wide media. A 24 or 36-inch roll of media may be cut to 60 or 42 inches long and used for this procedure.
- If the problem persists, generate a CSO for service (send ALL required parts as listed below).
