Turn the printer off, then on, to verify the error (if no error, attempt to verify functionality).
If the error appears, turn the printer off and disconnect the power cable from the printer.
Disconnect the Trailing cable (refer to pg. 8-39 of the Service Manual).
Check that the ends of the cable are flat and not damaged or bent. Replace if damaged (refer to pg. 8-39 of the Service Manual).
NOTE:
If Removal and Installation instructions are needed for reference during any repairs performed, refer to the 1000 Series Service Manual available on the
Computer
Care Web site for review or download.
Reconnect the Trailing cable correctly, making sure it is pushed in firmly (shaded part will NOT be visible).
Before turning the printer on, check the resistance (ohms) between the two test points above the Trailing cable.
If the resistance is less than 100 ohms, do NOT turn the printer on as the Trailing cable is installed incorrectly or is damaged. Remove and reinstall the cable again and measure the resistance. If the resistance is still less than 100 ohms, replace the Carriage and Trailing cable. If the fuse (if present) is blown, replace the fuse. Following replacement, turn the printer on and perform a Calibrations Backup and a Pen Alignment Calibration as listed below (Perform a Carriage Height Calibration per instructions shipped with Carriage Height tool). Verify printer functionality.
If the resistance is greater than 100 ohms, change the fuse (if present), turn the printer on and verify functionality.
If the error continues after reinstallation of the Trailing cable and replacement of the fuse (if applicable), then replace the Electronics module and Trailing cable (if not already replaced). Refer to pgs. 8-25, 8-39 of the Service Manual.
Following replacement of the Electronics module, turn the printer on and perform a Calibrations Backup and a Pen Alignment Calibration as listed below.
Turn the printer off, then on, to verify the error (if no error, attempt to verify functionality).
If the error appears, turn the printer off and disconnect the power cable from the printer.
Access the Electronics module (remove the small cover on left side) and visually inspect the fuse located on the upper left corner of the Electronics module (newer Electronics modules). If no fuse, continue with Step 6.
If fuse is burned, replace the Carriage, Trailing cable and fuse. Refer to pgs 8-44, 8-39, and 8-25 of the Service Manual.
Following replacement, turn the printer on and perform a Calibrations Backup and a Pen Alignment Calibration as listed below (Perform a Carriage Height Calibration per instructions shipped with Carriage Height tool). Verify printer functionality.
If no fuse is found on the Electronics module (older Electronics module), check F7 on the upper right corner of the Electronics module.
NOTE: It is necessary to remove the
Electronics module cover
to check F7.
If the value is above 1 ohm, the fuse is blown. Replace the Carriage, Trailing cable and Electronics module (refer to pgs. 8-44, 8-39, and 8-25 of the Service Manual).
Following replacement, turn the printer on and perform a Calibrations Backup, and a Pen Alignment Calibration as listed below (Perform a Carriage Height Calibration per instructions shipped with Carriage Height tool).
If the fuse is NOT blown (value less than 1 ohm), replace the Carriage and Trailing cable (refer to pgs. 8-44, and 8-39 of the Service Manual).
Following replacement, turn the printer on and perform a Carriage Height Calibration per instructions shipped with Carriage Height tool).
With the printer turned on, scroll to the Printer Setup Menu (Icon of printer in lower right side of the front panel display) and press Enter.
Using the Arrow keys, scroll to Service Calibrations and press Enter.
Select Electronics Module Repl, and press Enter.
Following the calibration, turn the printer off then on and verify functionality.
In the Service Tools submenu scroll to the 8. Pen Alignment and press Enter.
If paper is not loaded, the printer will prompt for installation of paper; load as needed.
NOTE: Do not use Clear Film, Vellum or Natural Tracing paper when performing a Pen Alignment Calibration.
The printer will begin the Pen Alignment and display the time remaining to complete the calibration.
Following the calibration, turn the printer off, then on and verify functionality.
