NOTE: With certain firmware versions the printer's sensors are not disabled when entering the Service tools menu. If the sensor is not automatically disabled, disable by inserting a folded piece of media into the top cover sensor (triggering the Top cover sensor).
Using a lint-free cloth dampened with water, clean the surface of the Drive roller, Pinch-arm rollers, and Overdrive rollers. While cleaning the pinch-arm rollers, ensure the pinch rollers are seated firmly against the Drive roller. If any of the pinch-arms are raised, replace the associated parts.
Repeat until Drive roller, Pinch-arm rollers and the Overdrive rollers are clean.
Close the top cover and try loading media.
NOTE: Remove the folded media triggering the top cover sensor, if present.
Ensure that media is loaded on spindle correctly and ensure the spindle is seated properly into the rollfeed assemblies. Reseat and verify functionality if necessary. If spindle is seated properly continue with remaining steps.
NOTE: Ensure the customer is using a supported media type for the printer. Media with specifications out of the printer’s range may affect media handling.
Check right and left ends of the spindle for damage to machined ends. Replace the spindle if necessary.
Verify the spindle does not have the small end-caps, or the end-caps are not damaged. Replace the spindle if needed.
If the spindle is replaced, load media onto new spindle, and try re-loading.
If loading media is unsuccessful, or no problem is found with the spindle, continue with the remaining steps.
Check Overdrive Rollers to ensure that they are not swollen. If rollers are swollen, Overdrive (Center Platen assembly) must be replaced (refer to pg. 8-63 of the Service Manual). Lube Overdrive bushing with Synthetic Oil. Following Center platen replacement, perform a Service Station, Color to Color and Carriage Height Calibration (instructions listed below).
If problems persist or no problem was found, continue with the next section.
If the sheet loads correctly, attempt to verify functionality.
If problems occur, run the Electronics Systems service test:
If the test passes, do not replace the Vacuum fan. Attempt to verify functionality.
If the Vacuum fan fails, replace the fan (refer to pg. 8-11 of the Service Manual).
NOTE: If there is not enough vacuum holding the sheet or roll flat onto the center platen, there may be an obstruction in the vacuum path, or the vacuum motor fan may be weak. Inspect the center platen for obstructions and replace the Vacuum fan if needed.
Following replacement, turn the printer off then on, and verify printer functionality.
At the Ready prompt, scroll to the Printer Setup icon and press Enter.
Press the Up Arrow key and the Enter key simultaneously (accessing the Service Tools menu).
Follow instructions displayed on the front-panel to complete the selected calibration.
When calibration is finished, stay in Service mode to perform any additional calibrations (if required).
When all required calibrations are complete, return to the main Status display using the Back key.
Loosen the two screws that secure the left door to the Multi-Roll feeder.
Remove the two star screws (Orange) that secure the Front top-cover to the Multi-Roll feeder.
Remove six T-20 screws that secure the left Side cover to the Multi-Roll feeder from the front.
Remove the Right door and Front top cover from the Multi-Roll feeder (follow steps 1 through 5 of the previous section and remove the right door instead of the left).
Remove Six T-20 screws that secure the right side cover to the Multi-Roll feeder from the front.
Remove nine T-20 screws that secure the right side cover to the Multi-Roll feeder from the rear.
