Ensure printer is turned on, and unload any paper loaded into the printer.
With the paper unloaded, check the front panel for the Ready for Paper message (if message is displayed, continue with step 8).
If the Ready for Paper message does not appear, raise the ARSS handles.
Locate the media sensor (media sensor is approximately 4 inches to the left of the white alignment line on the entry roller and 3 inches back of the center guide). Ensure the media sensor flag is protruding up through the Center Guide approximately one quarter of an inch.
NOTE: If you line up the right edge of a regular sheet of paper with the right ARSS handle, insert it about halfway, and slowly slide the paper to the right, the paper should stop when the right edge is aligned with the second Overdrive roller from the right. At this point, the sheet should be hitting the media sensor flag (repeat a couple times if the paper does not stop in this location).
Lower the ARSS handles and insert a strip of paper to trigger the media sensor. If the paper is not triggering the media sensor to display a Ready for Paper message, replace the media sensor (refer to pg. 8-29 of the Service Manual).
NOTE: If Removal and Installation instructions are needed for reference during any repairs performed, refer to the 1000 Series Service Manual available on the Partner Care Web site for review or download.
If no problems are found or the problem persists, continue with the remaining steps.
Lift the ARSS handles, the front panel should display a Roll Load message and provide paper loading instructions. Load a Roll to verify functionality. If still having issues, continue with the remaining steps.
If the ARSS handles won't lift or the Roll Load message is not displayed, replace the ARSS Miscellaneous parts (refer to pg. 8-21 of the Service Manual). If the Roll Load message is displayed, but the printer does not beep after inserting the paper roll a minimum of 6 to 8 inches, then replace the media sensor (refer to pg. 8-29 of the Service Manual).
Following replacement, turn the printer on and perform a Calibrations Backup and Pen Alignment calibration (instructions below)
Following the calibrations, attempt to load paper (printer should beep and display the message Lower Handles to Continue).
The printer should pull the paper in and begin performing a printhead alignment procedure.
Lift the top cover (the printer will beep and should display a Sheet Load message on the front panel). If the message appears, go to step 5.
If no message appears, check that the window sensor in right trim is not stuck closed.
Fix or replace the window sensor (included with the right trim) as needed (refer to pg. 8-7 of the Service Manual). If replaced, attempt to verify functionality (continue with the remaining steps if the problem persists).
Open the Top cover and listen for the Vacuum fan to turn on. If the fan turns on, attempt to verify functionality.
If the fan does not turn on, attempt to load roll paper before determining the Vacuum fan is faulty.
If the fan still does not turn on, replace the Vacuum fan (refer to pg. 8-11 of the Service Manual). Following replacement, perform a Service Station and Color to Color calibration (instructions listed below).
At the Ready prompt, scroll to the Printer Setup icon and press Enter.
Press the Up Arrow key and the Enter key simultaneously. You will now be in the Service Tools menu.
Follow instructions displayed on the front-panel to complete the selected calibration.
When calibration is finished, stay in Service mode to perform any additional calibrations (if required).
When all required calibrations are complete, return to the main Status display using the Back key.
