HP Designjet 500 and 800 Series Printers - TWI: System Error 42:10

In this document:

System error 42:10 is generated when the Scan Axis/Carriage motor is plugged into the Electronics module but has failed. Causes of this error can include the Scan-Axis Motor or the Electronics module. Follow the steps listed below to accurately troubleshoot the issue, and replace the appropriate parts.

Troubleshooting stepsback to table of contents

If any of the troubleshooting steps listed below solve the problem, attempt to verify printer functionality (instructions below). If functionality is verified, no additional parts should be replaced.

  1. Turn the printer Off, then On to verify error. If no error attempt to verify functionality.
  2. If the error appears or problems persist, continue with the remaining steps.
  3. Turn the printer Off.
  4. Turn the printer On while holding down the ENTER and UP Arrow keys (to access Service mode). Continue to hold the buttons until the printer beeps.
  5. Press the ENTER key to access Service Tests (Service tests selection is default).
  6. Using the ARROW keys, scroll to Carriage Movement and press ENTER.
  7. The Carriage should move during the test.
  8. If the Carriage does not move or problems are observed during the test, replace the Scan-Axis motor (refer to pg. 8-29 of the 500/800 Series Service Manual).
  1. Following replacement, attempt to verify functionality. If the problem persist, continue with the remaining steps.
  2. Replace the Electronics module (refer to pg. 8-24 of the 500/800 Series Service Manual).
  3. Following replacement, verify printer functionality as instructed below.

Verifying printer functionalityback to table of contents

  1. Turn the printer On.
  2. Allow initialization to complete.
  3. Load media into the printer.
  4. From the main front-panel menu, select the Ink menu and press ENTER.
  5. Select Troubleshooting and press ENTER.
  6. Follow the instructions on the front panel.
  7. Following a successful troubleshooting plot, printer functionality has been verified.
