If the message, “Printheads still functional”,appears, scroll to Yes (Replace) and press Enter.
Open the carriage cover and remove all of the printheads.
Clean the electrical contacts on the carriage and the printheads using a lint-free cloth dampened with water.
When the contacts are dry, reinstall the printheads and close the carriage cover.
If the error returns, replace the affected printhead(s). Replace the printhead(s) prior to creating a service call; this will prevent sending on-site technicians to replace a printhead.
NOTE: If the Printhead error icon is a question mark, each Printhead will have to be tested separately as the printer is not sure which one is causing the problem.
Following replacement of the suspect printhead(s), attempt to verify functionality.
If the problem persists, ensure the printer's firmware is version A.01.07 or greater. Upgrade the firmware if necessary.
NOTE: The REPLACE message appears in the front panel when several nozzles of a printhead are failing. This condition is stored in the ACUMEN chip of the printhead, and in previous releases of the firmware code, once the printhead was marked as replace, the condition could not be reversed even if the printhead was successfully recovered.
When using firmware A.01.07 or higher, the replace condition can be reversed by either reseating the printhead or by triggering a printhead recovery through the front panel.
If the problem persists, replace the carriage and trailing cable (refer to pages 8-44 to 8-52 of the Service Manual for instructions).
Make sure the printhead alignment completes successfully and that no error messages appear on the front panel.
Print a troubleshooting plot and ensure the print quality is acceptable.
Verify that the printer has passed all three tests before leaving the customer’s site.
