HP Designjet 5500 Series Printers - TWI: System Error 1F500XX
In this document:
Document number: BPP90196
Last updated: 05-Sept-2003
Minimum skill level: 2
The printer has detected a problem with the Hard Disk Drive (HDD), or the Main PCA. Indirect causes can include memory, the Boot ROM DIMM or the HP Jetdirect EIO card. Internal printer hardware that may cause these problems are the HDD, the Power Supply Unit (PSU) or the Main PCA. Follow the steps listed below to determine the actual cause of the problem and fix or replace the necessary parts.
Contact center agents (troubleshooting to be performed with customer)
The steps below are designed to achieve remote resolution of the issue. If the troubleshooting steps below appear to resolve the issue, attempt to verify printer functionality by printing several internal prints. If the issue persists following the steps below, generate a CSO for service.
- Turn the printer off, using the main power switch located on the back of the printer.
- After 10-15 seconds, turn the main power switch on.
- If no error appears, attempt to verify printer functionality.
- If the error re-appears, continue with the remaining steps.
- Turn the printer off.
- Remove and reseat all memory and the BOOT ROM DIMM (leave the rear access cover open to check LED status in Step 8).
- Turn the printer on. If no error appears, verify functionality.
- If the problem persists, check the LED's on the Main PCA (green and orange). If both LEDs are off (with the printer turned on) the PSU is defective. Generate a CSO for service and include all required parts as listed below.
- If the LEDs are on, turn the printer off and continue with the remaining steps.
- Remove the BOOT ROM DIMM and replace with the new DIMM.
NOTE: If a new BOOT ROM DIMM is not available during troubleshooting, keep the original DIMM in the printer and continue with Step 12.
- Turn the printer on; if no error appears verify printer functionality.
- If the error re-appears, turn the printer off and re-install the original DIMM.
- Remove and reseat the HP Jetdirect card.
- Turn the printer on; if no error appears, verify functionality.
- If the error re-appears, turn the printer off.
- Remove the HP Jetdirect card and install it into the other available EIO slot.
- Turn the printer on.
- If no error appears, note that one EIO slot on the Main PCA is defective and will require a Main PCA replacement.
NOTE: If the printer is covered by warranty or contract, schedule service to replace the Main PCA and the HDD Controller. If there is no warranty or contract coverage, the customer may schedule service at their convenience.
- If the error appears with the EIO card in both slots, turn the printer off and remove the EIO card altogether.
- Turn the printer on.
- If the problem does not occur with the EIO card removed, verify printer functionality and replace the EIO card.
NOTE: If the EIO card is proven faulty do not create an on-site service call; send a new Jetdirect EIO card (J6057-61001).
- If the problem persists, turn the printer off and re-install the EIO card back into the original slot.
- Generate a CSO for service and include all required parts as listed below.
