Troubleshooting stepsback to table of contents

If parts are replaced or fixed in any of the steps listed below, attempt to verify printer functionality before continuing with the remaining steps. Verify functionality by turning the printer on and successfully printing internal test prints. If functionality is verified, no additional parts should be replaced.

  1. Turn the printer off, using the main power switch located on the back of the printer.
  2. After 10-15 seconds, turn the main power switch on.
  3. If no error appears, attempt to verify printer functionality.
  4. If the error re-appears, continue with the remaining steps.
  5. Turn the printer off.
  6. Ensure the cooling fans are connected correctly to the power supply unit (refer to pages 8-88 of the service manual).
  1. If cables are re-connected, attempt to verify functionality.
  2. If problems persist, determine if one or both of the fans is functional (if one fan operates correctly, turn the printer off, swap connections between the two fans, turn the printer on and determine if the fan, or the power supply is faulty).
  3. If both of the fans operate fine when swapped (only one connection operates the fans correctly), replace the power supply unit (refer to pages 8-88 of the service manual).
  4. If both fans do not operate, turn the printer off and connect the new cooling fans to the power supply unit (refer to pages 8-88 of the service manual).
  5. Turn the printer on, if both fans operate correctly and no system error appears, verify printer functionality.
  6. If problems persist, turn the printer off and replace the main PCA and the HDD controller (which connects to the new main PCA). Refer to pages 8-81 and 8-85, respectively, of the service manual.
  7. Following replacement, turn the printer on and perform the Backup EEROM service utility (instructions below).
  8. Turn the printer off, then on, and verify functionality.
